Zone • http://smarturl.it/LM035 DAZED premiere: The Body Mod and Slow videos are a diptych on power, freedom, sex, domination and alternating states of control. All read via the prism of current politics, societal restraints and the capitalistic patriarchal manipulation and understanding of the body, especially the female form. Slow brings the male down from his pedestal. Existentially forced to confront himself and his own weaknesses. It shows pain, violence and eroticism before total submission. The male character is seen as a frail creature, the female in Slow, appearing as Wagner's Valkyrie or a warrior princess represents his thoughts and fears, becoming a powerful, confrontational force. This video is pointing towards the idea of construction of fear, its administration and abuse - one of the greatest political and capitalistic tool. Body Mod gazes at the female form. Fetishised, restrained yet still powerful; gradually more and more torn and weakened by forces seen and unseen. It additionally speaks, via both the song and the video, about a world dominated by the topology of desire, sex, love and intimacy within a virtual, networked community. The female body acts as an allegory of, as the title suggests, the modified and commodified female form and our desires. The performance shows the body fighting against the restrains, it is gradually becoming fragmented, weaker. These videos are not about inverting the gender roles or challenging the old fashioned gender stereotypes. They are about the inherent characteristics of all humans and their attitude towards fear, pain, body, love and success - the equal amount of pain, torment and confusion we all experience due to the horrific way our society and politics have been recently forming. The harshness and intensity of sound, the use of body and provocation, pain and submission are elements that reoccur in our work.
