US special representative sees Russian 'act of aggression' off Crimea | DW News

Russian president Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of a pre-meditated provocation in the naval confrontation off Crimea. Tensions between Moscow and Kyiv escalated after Russia seized three Ukrainian vessels on Sunday. At least a dozen Ukrainian sailors are in custody. Ukraine's president has declared martial law in parts of the country, and warned that Russia is preparing for war. He has the backing of the US Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker. Nobody who knows anything about the recent history of Crimea and the Donbass is buying his interpretation of events. Fat chance, Crimea will ever revert to Ukraine. They will no longer need to fear Ukraine and they can safely transport their exports to the Med and beyond. Sanctions hurt everyone and personally my family can no longer afford Russian caviar at Sunday dinner. ...

The West need Ukrain in order to establish bases that they can use to contain Russia. The West backed president of Ukrain is unpopular they have to find a way to push his ratings up b4 March elections ... 2
