Japan calls China greatest strategic challenge in annual defence white paper

Japan's annual defence white paper has called China the "greatest strategic challenge" for the nation and international community. This is its first defence white paper since its unveiled a new national security policy last December. Suspected spy balloons that caused a diplomatic row between China and the US earlier this year were mentioned in Japan's white paper. Japan said its Self-Defense Forces will shoot down any aerial objects that trespass its airspace. The paper also highlighted China’s growing military presence around a group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea.
