This blind elephant, who we have fondly named Ginger, has been rescued and the Forest Department of Uttar Pradesh who is taking action against the offenders who have left her in this situation. Ginger will be provided medical treatment at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital which was established in collaboration with the U.P Forest Dept. A team of veterinarians examined Ginger and found that she is malnourished. Her visible tailbone and very conspicuous spine protruding out betrays her crippled and fragile state. She also has a slight limp on her right leg and keeps relieving her weight from it, along with signs of swelling on her right elbow. Her blindness could be caused due to negligence and malnutrition but we can only confirm after further examination. We are grateful to the Uttar Pradesh Forest Dept. for taking such quick action in this matter and setting an example for such crippled elephants, ensuring that these offenses will not be tolerated.
