According to the 1996 census, Yazd province had a population of about 750,769, of which 75.1% were urban residents while 24.9% resided in rural areas. At the 2011 census, its population (including Tabas County, which was transferred to South Khorasan Province) was 1,074,428, in 258,691 families; excluding Tabas County, its population (as of 2006) was 895,276, in 241,846 families.[4] Yazd (persisch استان یزد, DMG Ostān-e Yazd) ist eine der 31 iranischen Provinzen. Population La population de la province de Yazd est majoritairement Perse, dont la plupart sont des musulmans chiites. Il existe aussi une communauté Zoroastrienne considérée comme la plus nombreuse d'Iran. استان یزد یکی از استان‌های ایران به مرکزیت شهر یزد است. تاریخ و فرهنگ استان یزد از سرزمین‌های تاریخی است که در میان ایالت‌های قدیمی و بزرگ از جمله پارس، اصفهان، کرمان و خراسان قرار داشته‌است. آبادی نشینی در این منطقه از قدمت طولانی برخوردار می‌باشد. این سرزمین از گذرگاه‌های مهم در دوره‌های تاریخی محسوب می‌شده‌است. این ناحیه در دوره هخامنشیان از راه‌های معتبر موسسه‌های راهداری، مراکز پستی و چاپاری برخوردار بوده‌است. راهداری در یزد از زمان قدیم چنان اهمیتی داشت که خاندان آل مظفر از منصب راهداری ناحیه میبد به پادشاهی رسیدند. این استان از درگیری‌ها و جنگ‌های تاریخ کشور ایران تا حدودی ایمنی داشته‌است. سخت‌گذر بودن راه‌ها به همراه محدودیت منابع آبی مانع عمده تسخیر این منطقه توسط بعضی از حکومتهای بزرگ و کوچک پیرامون این منطقه در طول تاریخ بوده‌است. وجود آثاری از مهر و آناهیتا، ایساتیس و هخامنشی و زندان اسکندر و برج و بارو و کهن درهای بزرگ و عظیم و پناهگاه‌های متعدد و موبدان و سران ساسانی و ابنیه و یادگارهای بعد از اسلام نظیر مساجد و امامزاده‌ها و مزارها نشانگر فرهنگ و تمدن قبل و بعد از دوره اسلامی بوده‌است. مردم از قدیم الایام روابط تجاری و فامیلی قدرتمند با شهرهای انار و رفسنجان به دلیل تجارت پسته، با شهرهای طبس و تربت حیدریه به دلیل بودن بر سر راه یزد مشهد و با شهرهای آباده ، شهر بابک ، نیریز ، اقلید ، بوانات و جندق و شهرستان خور و بیابانک به دلیل خرید و فروش محصولات کشاورزی و مرکزیت داشتن اداری، آموزشی و سیاسی یزد در مرکز ایران وجود دارد.
