As vaccination rates have dipped, pediatricians have noticed another disturbing trend involving parents declining an essential shot that newborns get soon after birth. For the past 60 years, newborns have received a shot of Vitamin K soon after delivery. It dramatically reduces the risk of bleeding in the brain, a life-threatening condition that can cause brain damage in infants. But there's concern more babies are now at risk because they're not getting that shot.
