Proteins are one of the few macromolecules of our body. Proteins take part in the formation of muscles and almost all other body tissues.
Muscles have a number of protein molecules such as troponin, myoglobin etc. Bones have Ossein protein. Likewise blood has hemoglobin protein. Protein are not just constituents of body but also play a major role as functional proteins such as different enzymes.
Proteins are made up of small units which are called amino acids. Amino acids are called so because each aminoa cid has one carboxylic group and one amino group.
There are around twenty amino acids which take part in the formation of proteins. The amino acids are as follows:
1. Glycine
2. Leucine
3. Isoleucine
4. Tryptophan
5. Threonine
6. Valine
7. Glutamic Acid / Glutamate
8. Lysine
9. Phenylalanine
10. Histidine
11. Methionine
12. Proline
13. Serine
14. Aspartic Acid / Aspartate
15. Tyrosine
16. Asparagine
17. Glutamine
18. Cysteine
19. Alanine
20. Arginine
These twenty amino acids link with one another and form a huge number of proteins
